Adopting in Wyoming
Individual who live in Wyoming and want to get approved to adopt a child can contact The State of Wyoming Department of Family Services (DFS) or a certified Adoption Agency.
Requirements to adopt in Wyoming include submitting an application. Families who are approved to continue will need to get a medical evaluation done, provide a financial report, verify employment, obtain references, get finger printed, have a background done and have a social worker prepare a family home study.
DFS does not charge adoption fees. Some children adopted through DFS, will also receive financial assistance to help with the legal fees that are required to finalize the adoption.
Agencies facilitate Domestic Adoption in the United States and also International Adoptions in other countries. Agencies do charge fees for their services and families need to consider the fees before signing a contract with the agency.
Infants and younger children needing homes can often be found through the use of an agency. Some agencies work with birth mothers who create an adoption plan for their child. Families who choose an agency will have similar requirements to those families who adopt a child through DFS.
Children who are adopted through DFS are usually legally free for adoption however most children adopted through an agency are not legally free. The birth parents can change their mind after the birth and choose to parent the child themselves. There are times that agencies have infants who need to find an adoptive home immediately. Most of the time, the wait for a referral is a lengthy one. It's important to remember that there are children all over the world who need homes. Your child may be found in a different state or even a different country.
